Sergio Romero is the only male ballet dancer who has a UA-cam channel afaik. You should check it out! He is a Spaniard, who dances for a company in Prague. I will leave a comment mentioning this video in his most recent video! Here are some of my favorites: 🩰Ferkhad from the Legend of Love 🩰James from La Sylphide (19 yo phenom Shale Wagman debuted/guest-starred this at the Mariinsky!! It's on UA-cam!) Do these next two count as classical ballet? Can they be "classical" if they are only recently created or does the word classical refer to the style of dance? 🩰A Winter's Tale. The agony of the dancer in the throes of intense jealousy. 😱 He was even giving it 99% in the studio. How exhausting! (Lauren Cuthbertson's character was visibly very pregnant, which I'm guessing would make dancing very difficult!) 🩰Alice In Wonderland: 🐛The Caterpillar and The Mad🤪 Tapper🚰🕺 Thank you so much for another very enjoyable and educational video! The top comment pointed out that you have 24,000 subs now and I could not be more delighted for you! I think at New Year's, you had 1000, so you are really growing - richly deserved! 🙏🩰☔️🦌💜💟

Every variation depends on the artist. Please do not generalize variations into one slot on your ratings board. This is where the maturity of the artist and the maturity of the audience matters.

Oh my goodness. This video is for fun, no need to take it so seriously. And they’ve watched many people do these variations so I believe they understand it depends on the artist and they even mention that multiple times

Good video, thanks! The only caveat I have is that I'd rate the Golden Idol variation a bit higher, but only the Makarova version. I prefer my ballet without the children in blackface like the Bolshoi does it. Sorry, I've been told by Russians it's just an American preference...Here's an old clip of Angel Corella performing it 9his perfect arms!)ua-cam.com/video/pLMGgnBttGc/v-deo.html

Loved all of them! A few things came to mind; memories of English National Ballet's Corsaire, with great swaggering dancing from all the male cast (ok, except for the doddery old Pasha); the Siegfried variation from Act 1 reminded me of Anthony Dowell who had a beautiful line despite his totally correct restrained Englishness. And lastly; while not ballet itself, whenever I hear the Don Q pas de deux I remember the beautiful John Curry skating to this back in (gulp!) 1976 - he lifted figure skating into a whole new art form. I think that was the first time I heard the music. And yes, the Bayadere engagement music just doesn't work (unless Solor was a total selfish narc!)

Really enjoyed this list, and agree with most of it. I don't like Bluebird, and I couldn't tell you why. I think Acteon is great. It's strange you hardly ever see Les Patineurs. It always bugs me when they put those little dancing boys in the way of the Golden Idol solo. I do love Talisman, and all of the Napoli boys. The Auber Grand Pas de Deux always gets me. I've seen one version of the Sylvia Orion solo in his Cave scene that I really liked. I really like all the Flames of Paris music. As for Solor, I think in the Engagement Scene he has been sort of carried away by all the pomp & privilege, and maybe he likes Gamzatti a bit too, since she is so besotted with him. I don't think it's till Nikiya shows up, that he sort of remembers his vows and starts feeling guilty. Typical guy.

Very fun. Would be nice to see if you do a collab someday with a danseur to see how opinions vary. I'll admit, I didn't immediately know what Franz variation you were talking about. And you guys know how much of a Coppelia fan I am, so I think that says a lot. Should absolutely be talked about more. Btw, I'd love a Flame of Paris commentary

3 times "Napoli!" You really must come to Copenhagen and stand on the scene where it was premiered 29th of March 1842. Remember that the Dansh king Frederik VII married the balerina Luise Rasmussen in 1850, so she had been working under Bournonville. She may even have been cast in the corps in Napoli at the premiere . Our present crown prince is single, so maybe there would be a chance there. to continue this tradition. That would be the theme for a ballet in itself. 😏

@@balletreign Then you will have time to prepare. One of you as queen of Denmark . Smart, elgant, beautifull and with a lot of humor. We do also have precedence: The brother of the king married an asian girl from Hong Kong, so we are used to the Asian charm and determination. If it does not happen, at least we have the layout of the storyline for a ballet with some elements of Cinderella. But dont give up entirely Prince Christan is rather charming, and of course The Royal Theater and The Royal Danish Ballet in walking distance from the palace. There is of course a royal box there, the view from there onto the scene is rather lousy, but the tickets are free. 😄

I have never been interested in ballets. I happened on this vlog, and you two made it so interesting and easy to appreciate! Really great cadence and communication without one dominating over the other.

NY City Ballet wins. I like the gold on the Bolshoi, but prefer the colors of NYCB. Thanks for the comparisons. Fun
